Escudero Hydroelectric Power Plant

Posted by admin on July 27, 2006

I saw the Escudero Hydroelectric Power Plant at Villa Escudero last week. Originally it generated power for the Escudero coconut plantation in Tayabas province. It is the first hydroelectric plant in the Philippines. Although no longer in use, it is very well-preserved. (Architect Augusto F. Villalon)

It is not the first hydroelectric power plant. The first hydroelectric power plant is the Botocan Hydroelectric Power Plant in Majayjay, Laguna. The second is the Caliraya Hydroelectric Powere Plant also in Laguna.

I believe the Asin hydro plants near Baguio City is older than the Botocan Hydros. The Asin plants were built and commissioned in the 1920’s.
